Thought Reps

Updated

Attach files to a thought

Attach a PDF, a document or any other file to a thought. Learn how to add one, open it, share it on, and what the 5 MB limit means.

A thought can hold a file, like a PDF, a document or a spreadsheet. It shows as a small card under your text. Tap the card to open the file. Each file block holds one file.

A file card shows a preview or an icon, the file name, and its type and size.

Add a file

  1. In the editor, tap in the row above the keyboard. Or tap "Add block" at the end of the thought. The new block goes right after the one you are in.
  2. Choose "File". The Files picker opens.
  3. Pick one or more files. Each file gets its own block.

To remove a file, tap on its card and choose "Delete", or swipe it left in the editor.

Other ways to add one

  • On iPad, drag a file from Files into the editor. A picture you drop becomes an image. Any other file becomes a file block. See Use Thought Reps on iPad.
  • From another app, tap and choose Thought Reps. A photo becomes an image gallery, and any other file becomes a file block. See Save from other apps.

Open and share a file

Tap the card in a thought. The file opens in the iOS viewer, which shows many types, like PDFs, pictures, text and Office documents. For a PDF or a picture, the card shows a small preview. Other files show an icon for their type.

The viewer has a share button. Use it to save the file to Files, or to open it in another app. That works for any type of file, even one the viewer cannot show.

The size limit

A file can be up to 5 MB. You will see "Files can be up to 5 MB." if it is bigger. Pictures are not held to this limit, because Thought Reps resizes them. See Add images and galleries.
