Save from other apps
Send text, a link, a photo or a file to Thought Reps from Safari, Notes or any app with a share button. It shows up the next time you open the app.
You can send things to Thought Reps without opening it. Use the share button in other apps.
What you can share
- Text you have selected, like a quote from an article.
- A web link, like the page you are reading in Safari.
- A single text or Markdown file, up to 1 MB. Its text becomes the thought.
- A single photo. It is added as an image gallery.
- Any other single file, up to 5 MB. It is attached to the thought as a file block.
Several files, or several links, cannot be shared at once. For a file, the "New Thought" screen shows its name with a paperclip. You can type some text to go with it. See Attach files to a thought.
How to share
- Tap in the other app.
- Choose Thought Reps. If you do not see it, scroll to the end of the row of apps, tap "More", and turn it on.
- A "New Thought" screen opens with what you shared already filled in. If you shared text and a link, the link goes on its own line under the text.
- Edit it if you like, and add any #tags. Then tap "Save", or "Cancel" to throw it away.
Where it goes
The thought is saved in a hand-off folder. It is added to Thought Reps the next time you open the app. After that, it acts like any other thought. It waits for the default interval before it shows on your timeline. To find it sooner, tap on the Timeline. See Search your thoughts and Understanding the timeline.
If a file cannot be read
Thought Reps tells you if a shared text file is bigger than 1 MB or is not UTF-8 text, or if another file is bigger than 5 MB. Sharing text or a link always works.
Privacy
Sharing does not use the internet. What you share goes straight to your phone's own storage for Thought Reps.
Want a blank thought with no sharing involved? The Action button opens one in a press.
