Write your first thought
Tap the + button, type your thought, and save it. Here is what happens next, and where to find your thought while it waits.
Capture a thought
- Tap at the bottom right. It is there on every tab. It hides while a thought is open.
- The "New thought" editor opens with the keyboard up. Type your thought.
- Tap "Save" at the top right. The button stays off until you type something.
To close the editor without saving, tap "Cancel". If you changed anything, it asks "Discard changes?" first, and swiping the editor down will not close it. That way you never lose a draft by accident.
On iPhones with an Action button (iPhone 15 Pro and newer), it can open a new thought for you. See Open a new thought with the Action button.
What the first line does
The first line of your thought becomes its title on the timeline. The next lines show underneath as a short preview. Heading marks like # are taken out of the title.
Optional extras
- Add
#tagsanywhere in the text to file the thought. See Organize with tags. - Add photos with the button above the keyboard. See Add images and galleries.
- Add a text block and blur it to hide an answer. See Quiz yourself with blurred blocks. Or link to another thought. See Link thoughts into a mind map.
- Attach a file, like a PDF. See Attach files to a thought.
- Under "Schedule", use "Comes back every" if this thought should return sooner or later than usual.
Where does it go?
A saved thought waits before it first shows on the timeline, so it will not be there right away. That is on purpose. To find it sooner, tap on the Timeline and type a word from it. See Search your thoughts. Understanding the timeline tells you more.
To change a thought later, open it and tap "Edit". Editing the text does not change when the thought comes back.
